TUESDAY, 15 JULY 08 -- NICE EARLY AFTERNOON SAIL TO THE GATE AND BACK

Michael joined us for an afternoon outing about 1:40 pm and we left port shortly afterwards.

Winds were moderate as we left port, but we still raised single reefed main in anticipation of stronger winds before heading out into the central bay. As you can see, the megayacht PRINCESS MARIANA is still in port.

We pulled out a single reefed jib before heading out into the central bay, where this small Ericson was heading downwind doing wing and wing.

As we sailed west on the southwest breeze with some light ebb current assist, the city behind us was receding and a bit hazed out.

ADVENTURE CAT was heading back to home port as we continued westward.

Several fishing boats were out on the bay, like California Dawn here just west of Alcatraz.

We tacked and sailed all the way across the bay to near the SF shore inside the south tower and then tacked to sail out the gate near midspan, enjoying views of the bridge and the headlands as we sailed along.

We sailed to near the entrance of Kirby Cove and then came about and headed back inside the gate, eventually passing this small Beneteau heading for the gate.

A bit later, we spotted this lone windsurfer crossing in front of us, using a large sail in the moderate winds.

Later, we spotted this Hunter sailboat heading west with terrible trim on her jib, and no apparent intention to trim it properly.

The skipper at the helm of the Hunter seemed obliviour to the flapping of the jib.

The wind was almost directly out of compass west, and stayed that way as we sailed along the cityfront, so to avoid having to gybe, we pulled in the jib so we could sail direct downwind.

The city was enjoying nice sunshine as we approached home port.

The flags on the end of pier 39 were fluttering in a breeze of about 15 knots.

We sailed past the marina and then headed into the wind to douse the main and then get ready for landing before motoring into the marina. Another very pleasant outing on our beautiful bay.
